This small scheme to provide a new wing to the existing North Memorial Hall, was located in a Conservation Area, immediately adjacent to a historic development of ex-servicemen’s homes. The scheme provided for classrooms, storage and washroom facilities, and was designed to be in keeping with, and sub servient to, the adjacent retained buildings. The scheme demonstrates a blend of new build elements with the existing through the careful choice of materials and design detailing.

Value: £150k.
Special features: Designed and built in keeping with, and subservient to, the existing building.
Challenges faced: Located in a conservation area to include protection of nearby trees under a preservation order.
Outcome achieved: Excellent blend of new build with existing, historic structure in a popular, highly visible conservation area.
