Co-op Jacksdale

Described as ‘An elegant example of current retail design’, the supermarket at Jacksdale uses a palette of glass, brick, cladding and a brise soleil to great effect. Tasked to develop a replacement retail facility for Midlands Co-operative Society in Jacksdale, Nottinghamshire, KPW designed a contemporary retail unit and associated parking. On a prominent corner site formerly housing a cinema, the proposals are sensitive in scale to surrounding buildings, and combine traditional brick with modern cladding systems and sensitive external works to tie the building into the locality.

Project on behalf of: Midlands Co-operative Society Ltd.
Contractor: Kingfisher Construction.
Value: £1.1m.
Special features: Contemporary in style, with recycled timber effect cladding, Brise Soleil and feature glazing adding extra detail.
Outcome achieved: The regeneration of this sloping site, formerly a disused cinema, successfully adapted highway access and the provision of a contemporary village store.
